Dance is for grown-ups too
Walking into a dance class as an adult takes a bit of courage, we know. That's exactly why our adult classes are so warm and so unhurried. There's no judgement, no pressure, and no expectation that you'll be able to do everything on day one. Most people are nervous walking in and beaming on the way out.
Our adult ballet classes are so popular we run three a week, and we teach tap at three levels plus jazz and pointe (by assessment). Classes run 48 weeks of the year, so once you start, you can keep dancing all year round. Your teacher danced professionally and has a real gift for putting grown-up beginners at ease.

Owned by people who genuinely care
JA is owned and run by sisters Claire and Gemma. It's a family school, and when you join the adult classes, you become part of that family too.

Claire
Owner & co-director
Claire grew up dancing at JA and now owns and runs the school with her sister. She's the friendly face at the end of every enquiry, if you're nervous about starting as an adult, she's the one to talk to.

Gemma
Owner & co-director
Gemma has danced her whole life and runs JA alongside Claire. Between them they've built a school where grown-up beginners feel just as at home as the dancers who've been here for years.
What our adult dancers say
Real words from grown-ups who took the leap, most of them were nervous before their first class too.
“Being a complete ballet beginner, I was unsure what to expect, but I absolutely love it. The class members have been so welcoming and the teacher is patient and encouraging. Whether you want to improve your fitness, challenge yourself or just meet new people, give it a go. You won't regret it!”

Adult classes, your questions answered
Am I too old to start?
Not at all. Our adult classes cater for every age and there's no upper limit. Plenty of our adults start in their 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond.
Do I need any experience?
No. We cater for total beginners alongside more experienced dancers in the same class, and it genuinely works, because the atmosphere is so supportive. If you danced years ago and want to come back, you'll fit right in too.
What should I wear and do I need special shoes?
Just something you feel comfortable moving in, leggings or tracksuit bottoms are perfect. You don't need any special shoes for your first class. For ballet, come in bare feet and we'll talk shoes once you've settled in.
How long are the classes and how often do they run?
Adult classes are 45 minutes to 1 hour (our Wednesday morning ballet class is 1.5 hours), and they run 48 weeks of the year, so you can keep dancing all year round.
Is the first class really free?
Yes. Your first dance class is completely free, with no registration fee and no obligation to join. Come along, see how it feels, and decide afterwards.
Ready to Take the First Step?
Try any class free, for your child or yourself. No registration fee, no obligation. We'll welcome you from the very first step, no matter your age or experience. Questions? Claire is always here to help.
